Preveli Palmgrove
Plakias - Rethymnon Attractions
On the banks of the Great River (Megalos Potamos), which transports the waters of the Kourtaliotikos gorge, is the second largest palm grove in Crete, after the palm grove in Vai. At the exit of the river there is a beautiful beach with light sand, with deep sea and very cool waters. Preveli beach is one of the most famous beaches of Rethymnon with thousands of visitors every day.
You can walk along the river, taking a unique walk through the palm trees and climbing the magnificent gorge.
You can reach Preveli by car or motorbike, starting from Plakias, and proceed to Monastery of Preveli. You will reach a platform where you will park your car or your motobike and then walk along the path leading to the beach. Approximately 20 minutes walking.
For a shorter road, you will follow a dirt road that leads to Drimiskianos Ammoudi and from there pedestrians will follow the path that leads to the beach in 5 minutes.
If you do not have a car or you like boat rides, there are daily boat trips from Plakias and Agia Galini to Preveli beach.
